First Half of the Year in Everyday MathThis is a featured page

What did you like or dislike about the Chapters 1-6 in everyday math?
Were there any surprises?
What was your favorite part or what was your least favorite part?
Was it easier or harder than you expected it would be?

I liked chapters 1-6 in Everyday Mathematics because there were fun ways of teaching the lesson that I enjoyed doing. I also liked some of the activities in the math journal such as the long jump for mean, median, maximum, median, mode, and range.
I was surprised at some of the math box pages where there is a box of something we haven't been taught.
My favorite part would probably be the math games because they were fun and they taught us in an enjoyable way.
If you wanted to know my least favorite part, I would have to agree that I disliked the review worksheets. They were helpful, but I like to stay focused on one main topic. I should be more flexible and not get confused.
This year, it was probably easier than I expected. I thought that we would jump to a whole other level, but we gradually moved along without skipping anything. ~* *~ Jan. 13, 08
I did like this chapter but there were some hard things on it like fractions. I did not like fractions because they were very hard for me to do like the really big ones! The other thing that I did not like was subtracting fractions. I did not like that because for me it was much harder then to add fractions then to subtract! -Izzy-

I liked how Everyday math did a topic and the same topic would show up again. Example we learnt about angles and in the math boxes they still have questions on angles.+Lauren+

It was a clever thing to do the same topic and if you are going to forget it again, the same topic appears in some math boxes. I liked when we did activities for stem-and-leaf plot by doing something like the long jump recordings. --SooMin

I didn't like how on the Study Link worksheets on the bottom of the page they had problems example: 1523+9571. We all know our basic addition and subtraction so I don't see why they have to have that type of problem on the worksheet.--Lauren 28-1-08

I feel that positive and negative numbers help me understand things allot More........--Maddy 29-1-08

I liked that if for an example we went over fractions and you didn't get one specific part about fractions, usually but not always they came back and did more with that! ~Madeline~ January 29, 2008

I would say the easiest was fractions and positive and negative numbers like for example five eights + two eights = seven eights and it was so easy and when dealing with the + - it is so easy it's like 4 ++++ take away 3 ---- which would = positive 1 it was so easy. - Shannonlee- January 29 2008

My favorite part of the first part o the year was +, -, /, *fractions because it was fun and easy when you learnt it. ~Tamara 30-1-08

My favorite part in Everyday Math is doing the positive and negative numbers, even though it was quite confusing! --SooMin--Jan, 31, 2008

My favorite part in Everyday Math is also doing positive and negative numbers and also doing powers. I still like positive and negative numbers more and still both are quite hard especially positive and negative numbers!-Brandon 31/1/08

My favorite part was when we played the games like the football game or the top it. It was fun because we learned while playing a game. - Hanson Jan 31 2008

My favorite part in Everyday Math was adding and multiplying fractions and simplify them. This was interesting and fun to me because we did this before! --SooMin--Feb, 4, 2008

I liked to compare and find common denominators for a fraction. I also liked to change a mixed fraction to a improper fraction. --SooMin--Feb, 10, 2008

I liked to multiply and divide fractions or a mixed fraction because I can find out the answers and it was really fun to do it because I did these things before with my mom and it made me think of it. --SooMin--Feb, 16, 2008

My favorite part was when i learned how to use counters to solve the PEMDAS problems using negative and positive numbers because I used to get an F for missing almost all of the problems. ~Sung Hwan~ March 18, 2008

My favorite thing to do in Math is to weigh objects, things on pan balances because it is really interesting to know the weight by not using the actual pan balance to find the weight. It was really neat to cancel out objects that are the same in each pan balances that has the same things on it. I am really looking forward to know more about interesting facts of pan balances. --SooMin--March, 25, 2008

I think that pan balances are kind of medium sometimes it was hard and sometimes it was easy when I find examples.-Shannonlee March 30, 2008

I liked to measure the radius, diameter and the circumstance of circles with partners during math class. It built up teamwork, and it made better to understand and memorise the facts by actually doing it. --SooMin--April, 8, 2008

I enjoyed finding out the surface area of a cylinder because it was quite challenging, yet, fun and easy when you figure it how to do it. I figured that Math always has an answer, no matter how hard the problem is!!!! --SooMin--April, 30, 2008

It was really interesting find the volume, area and surface area of geometric solids because I never knew that every shape has different formulas to work on. Especially, sphere, cylinders, cones, pyramids and other round surfaced solids! I think I learned a lot about shapes this year and I am looking forward to learn new things at 6th grade! --SooMin--May, 1, 2008
