In Science class, we are studying the earth, the earth's crust and the atmospheres. Please state only ONE fact about the earth, earths crust or atmosphere on this page.

Layers of the earth

Layers of the earthThe Earth - Mr. Carroll's Wiki

  • The Troposphere is the lowest layer of the atmosphere.--Lauren28-1-08

  • The earth crust is very very thin yet it can hold many living creatures like us.-Brandon 28/1/08

  • The earth's core is believed to be solid, but you may ask... How do you know for sure if no one can get there? Well think about earthquakes. If the core wasn't solid, then directly through the earth , on the other side we would be able to feel it, but , we can't.--Maddy 29-01-08
  • The plates move. That is how volcanoes form. That is also how mountains form. There are 3 types of boundaries:Transform fault boundary, divergent boundary, and convergent boundary. Those are the 3 ways the plates move. See the video for more information on what goes on under our atmosphere. Mitali ~ January 29, 2008
  • The mantle is so hot that it is made of molten rock or magma, magma is what comes out of volcanoes.-Eugene 30/1/08
  • Wagner is German man and he found out that all continents were together before and he is correct. - Alex 31/1/08

  • If two continents emerges together, one goes underneath and another goes on top. If it keeps on going, it will form a lava and it makes into a volcano. --SooMin--Jan, 31, 2008

  • If a volcano explodes, the parts will turn to rocks, and becomes the earth. Hawaii was made by the earth, rocks of the volcano. --SooMin--Feb, 4, 2008

  • The divergent boundary is about two plates moving apart and it forms magma which is a volcano The first animation picture is how the divergent boundary moves apart. The second picture is showing the divergent boundary under the sea, so t is called sea floor spreading. --SooMin--Feb, 13, 2008The Earth - Mr. Carroll's WikiThe Earth - Mr. Carroll's Wiki

  • The convergent boundary is about two plates moving together to be touching and one is heavier than the other so the heavier on goes down the other plate, and the other plate goes on top. Sometimes, if there is a sticking-out-bolder, there might be problems because the other plate could destroy the bolder and it could cause an eruption, or earthquakes. There could be a magma forming underneath, and it could seep through the cracks and explode and the volcano is formed. The first animation picture down below is about how the convergent boundary does. The second picture is how the magma seep through the cracks and it shows about the convergent boundary. The third picture is about how two continental plates collide, it will form mountain ranges by colliding crust is compressed and pushed upwards. --SooMin--Feb, 13, 2008

  • The transform boundary is about two plates moving sideways to each other, sliding through each other plates. This could cause an earthquake or an eruption because same as the convergent boundary that if there is a sticking-out-bolder, than the force will rapidly increase and move fast. An eruption can be caused by the scraping because if you rub your hands together really fast and place them on your cheek, it will be warm or hot. The animation picture below is about how does a transform boundary will do. --SooMin--Feb, 13, 2008

  • The Moho is a place right between the crust and the mantle. However, the official name for it is the Mohorovicic discontinuity. -Rohan-20/2/08
