Writing Process

First is pre-write. Write down your ideas and brainstorms. It can be a web, bullets, and/or Beginning, Middle, End.
Next is the rough draft. YOU MUST SKIP LINES SO YOU CAN REVISE! Write the writing down from the top of your head. You can then revise and change some words or add words here and there. DO NOT FIX PUNCTUATION, CAPITALIZATION, GRAMMAR, AND SPELLING!
***If you want you can change pieces of writing's with someone else and revise/give suggestion's on there pieces of writing!***
Then you need to edit. Check spelling, grammar, capitalization, and punctuation. You do not need to skip lines.
Finally you finish with the Final Copy. Sometimes Mr.Carroll will have us type it up and sometimes we will write it in our neatest hand writing.

While getting things prepared for this year, I thought it might be useful to create a page like this. Feel free to include things about the classroom, school, wiki, or basically anything dealing with the year. I will be showing them your wiki and explaining how it works and how to use it during the first week of school.

Be sure to follow the rules of School. Be safe, respectful, responsible, and honest everywhere you go. --SooMin--August, 3, 2008

You should not cheat on tests or projects because it is not responsible and the tests are for your own good. So, if you don't get the test questions, you can ask your teacher or just try your best and answer it. --SooMin--August, 3, 2008

If you don't get the first question of a test, you can just leave it for awhile, and go to the next question and if you've done the second question, go back to the question you didn't get because if you keep on trying to do the first question, and not the rest, you will not have a lot of time to finish it on time.

If it is really hard, then don't give up. Read it on, make a model or draw pictures to make it easier to work it out. Or ask the teacher to help you.

When you do a project, you should look at the audience, speak clearly, speak slowly (not too slowly) and steadily and make eye contacts. If you are doing a PowerPoint, don't try to turn your body back because the audience will only see your back. Also, use your hands to give more excitement and information. If your teacher is talking in front of the class and explaining things, you should take your notebook and write important things that you might have help on. If you do those things, someday there could be a pop quiz that you didn't know and you could open your notebook and revise it, then when the quiz starts, you might be able to remember things clearly. --SooMin--August, 4, 2008

Try to raise your hand to ask questions if you have, instead of just blurting out the question. But, you should not raise your hand when your teacher is talking about something and if your teacher asks the class if you have any questions, that second, you should raise your hand and ask your teacher.

You should try to work as hard as possible because when you have a good report on your projects and test then it would be better if a pop quiz comes out like the math thing. If you don't listen to your teacher and fiddle with your things, your teacher might have said something important for a quiz that will help you to understand and others. In fact, that’s all I’ve eaten
for at least a month or more. I’m sure tomorrow afternoon
the outlook’s just as bleak.
I’ll bet I’m having peanut butter
every day this week. I’m getting sick of peanut butter
sandwiches for lunch.
Why can’t I have baloney
or potato chips to munch? I wish I had lasagna
or a piece of pumpkin pie.
Another day of peanut butter
might just make me cry. But still this awful sandwich
is in every lunch I take.
You see, it is the only thing
my mom knows how to make.

I Have Noodles in My Nostrils

I have noodles in my nostrils.
I have noodles on my nose.
There are noodles on my cheeks and chin
and dripping down my clothes.
I’ve got more upon my forehead.
Some are sticking to my neck.
It’s completely disconcerting.
I’m a noodle-covered wreck. I can see them on my kneecaps,
and I know they’re in my shoes.
(When I stand, they’re somewhat squishy,
and I feel them start to ooze.) There are several in my pockets.
There’s a handful in my hair.
And I’m pretty sure that some are even
in my underwear. So try not to do what I did:
I’m a total nincompoop,
and I fell asleep at lunch
while eating chicken noodle soup.

Since I am very curious,
I stopped and took a look.

like wings and legs and breast.
I saw the beak and feet and tail,

Meat Loaf

My mother made a meat loaf,
but I think she made it wrong.
It could be that she cooked it
just a little bit too long.
She pulled it from the oven,
and we all began to choke.
The meat loaf was on fire,
and the kitchen filled with smoke.
The smoke detectors squealed
from all the flaming meat loaf haze.
My father used his drink
to try extinguishing the blaze.
Mom shrieked and dropped the meat loaf;
it exploded with a boom
and splattered blackened globs on
every surface in the room.
The dog passed out.
The kitten hid.
My brother screamed and fled.
The baby ate a gobbet
sticking to her head.
My father started yelling,
and my sister went berserk.
But I kept cool and said,
“At least our smoke detectors work.”

Powdered Sugar

I hurried in the restaurant
to have a special treat.
I ordered pancakes covered with
my favorite thing to eat.
It wasn’t maple syrup,
not molasses, honey, jam.
I said, “Put heaps and piles
of powdered sugar on it Ma’am.” The food arrived completely coated
with the tasty fluff.
I cut a bite and raised my fork
to gobble up the stuff. Instead, I goofed—I breathed it in
and quickly had to cough.
My choking blasted
all the luscious pancake topping off.
I blew a powdered sugar storm
that flurried ‘round the room.
It snowed on the linoleum—
the waitress got a broom. It fell on heads like dandruff flakes.
It frosted every light.
It powdered babies’ bottoms,
and turned chocolate milk to white. I blinked, and rubbed my cloudy eyes,
and sneezed a snow-white booger.
I saw my pancakes, and I said,
“I need more powdered sugar!”

The Spaghetti Challenge

My mom’s spaghetti is the best;
no other mom can beat it;
and every time she cooks it
I can hardly wait to eat it.
I twist the strands around my fork
with wonderful control,
but as I raise them to my mouth
they fall back in the bowl. I twirl the noodles once again
with all the skill I’m able,
but as I lift them up to eat
they tumble to the table. I spin my fork; spaghetti winds
around and round once more;
but as it nears my waiting lips
it slithers to the floor. My mom’s spaghetti is the best;
no other mom can beat it;
but I would like it better
if I got a chance to eat it.

The Yuckiest Sandwich

Take a slice of moldy bread.
Spread it thick with mud.
Add an onion ring or two,
topped with slimy crud.
Sprinkle fish food all around—
add a dried-up bug.
Smear the whole thing with the lint
you picked up off the rug. Garnish it with coffee grounds
or hair spray from your mother.
Then wrap it up in cellophane
and give it to your brother!

There's a New Cook in the Cafeteria

Good morning, staff and students.
We have a brand new cook.
And that’s why our lunch menu

our cook’s prepared a treat:

we have good news today:
she’s serving pickled cauliflower
and jellyfish soufflé.

Our Mother's At A Meeting

Our mother’s at a meeting
for some big, important deal
and couldn’t be at home tonight
to cook the evening meal.
She left some short instructions
that my sister was to follow.
Instead my sister cooked up things
impossible to swallow. Like Brussels sprouts in vinegar
and jellybeans in mustard,
an onion-pickle pudding
and a lemon-radish custard. She burned a stick of butter
till the house was filled with smoke,
then fried a pound of pepper
with a half an artichoke. She put a whole banana
in the blender with a steak,
then mixed it up with tuna fish
and baked it in a cake. She stirred some chocolate ice cream
with garbanzo beans and bacon.
A single bite was all it took
to leave me feeling shaken. We should have ordered pizza,
but we didn’t know, alas,
my sister is the only kid
who flunked her cooking class.

Every night he wakes me up,

Hey, Ma, Somethings Under My Bed

I hear it at night
when I turn out the light.
It’s that creature who’s under my bed.
He won’t go away.
He’s determined to stay.
But I wish he would beat it, instead.

I told him to go,
but he shook his head no.
He was worse than an unwelcome guest.
I gave him a nudge,
but he still wouldn’t budge.
It was hard to get rid of the pest.

So I fired one hundred
round cannonballs plundered
from pirate ships sailing the seas.
But he caught them barehanded
and quickly grandstanded
by juggling them nice as you please.

The creature was slick.
He was clever and quick.
This called for a drastic maneuver.
So I lifted my spread
and charged under the bed
with the roar of my mother’s new Hoover.

But he snorted his nose
and sucked in the long hose,
the canister, cord, and the plug,
and vacuumed in dust
till I thought he would bust
then he blew it all over the rug.

Now this made me sore,
so I cried, “This is war!”
and sent in a contingent of fleas,
an army of ants
dressed in camouflage pants,
followed closely by big killer bees.
But he welcomed them in
with a sly, crafty grin,
and he ate them with crackers and cheese.

I screamed, “That’s enough!”
It was time to get tough.
“You asked for it, Creature,” I said,
as I picked up and threw,
with an aim sure and true,
my gym sneaker under the bed.

With each whiff of the sneaker
the creature grew weaker.
He staggered out gasping for air.
He coughed and he sneezed
and collapsed with a wheeze
and accused me of not playing fair.

Then holding his nose
with his twelve hairy toes,
the creature curled into a ball,
and rolled ’cross the floor
smashing right through the door.
I was rid of him once and for all.

The very next night
when I turned out the light
and was ready to lay down my head,
I heard my kid brother
cry out to my mother,
“Hey, Ma, something’s under my bed.”

The Creature

His B. O. fills the bedroom,
and his breath is awful, too.
His teeth are caked with ick and grime;
he should be in a zoo.

Instead, he lives beneath me—
it’s like rooming with a skunk.
The creature’s my big brother,
and he has the lower bunk.

He snacked on the sofa.
He munched on the mats.
He sampled the fur
on my kittens and cats.

Although he enjoyed
all the things that he ate,
he suffered a tragic,
unfortunate fate.

The doctors confirmed it.
I heard what they said.
He ate mother’s cooking,
and now he is dead.

The Headless Horseman's Haircut

The headless horseman’s hair was
getting scruffy ’round the ears.
He hadn’t had a decent cut
in over twenty years.

He’d heard about a barber
who was recommended by
another headless horseman,
so he thought him worth a try.

He tied his horse outside the shop
on Second Avenue,
went in and asked the barber
for a shave and a shampoo.

He said, “I’d like my hair cut short,
but leave some length in back.
I’ll need a dandruff treatment, too.
I’m fond of wearing black.”

The headless horseman thought a bit
before instructing him,
“And then if time allows it, sir,
my moustache needs a trim.”

He left there feeling confident
at quarter after one.
He turned and told the barber,

What You're Doing Over The Summer Holidays

Since the summer vacation is coming soon school is coming to a end. This page is where you can type where your going for the summer vacation or what are you doing for summer vacation so that we can know something about your summer vacation.

I am going to Atlanta, U.S.A and France.

I'm going to stay here at Singapore, and I am going to be assigned lots and lots of lessons during the holiday and preparing for 6th grade...I can't wait until school starts!!!! I might have English, Math and Chinese over the Summer Break! But I am really sure that I am going to go to this place called Jung Sang Hakwon where you do Math in that place to improve on Math over the Summer Break! I go to this place called Parables and it is a place where you learn English! I really have a tight schedule for my Summer Break!!! Phew~! I can't wait to meet new friends in the Summer School!!! Also, I might be having exercises during the holiday and playing badminton downstairs with my sisters or my parents. I will cut my hair and have a front hair that lies on your forehead. I could pierce my ear....but the percent is 1% or even 0.1% because I am really afraid of them, but I think they are pretty. My sisters have them but I don't, so they tease me a lot so I'm not sure if I am going to do it or not. I also may change my hairstyle over the break doing straightning because my hair is so floppy and squiggly since my hair is curly, so I might be able to straighten my hair. I will also contribute on the Wiki because I can keep in touch with my friends by sending messages! Also, I'm going to work on the Wiki if I have time and try to get my goal of contributions, and right now it is: 2,000 contributions or 3,000 contributions....I wonder if I will make it or not! Well, right now, my contributions are: 1,100 contributions so I am trying to get 2,000 as my goal but I think that it will take a lot of time because it's a long way to go to 2,000 contributions! I will try my best to reach my goal and impress my parents over the Summer Break! I want to go back to Korea, but I'm afraid that I can't go because of schedule and my father's business...I hope I can go back to Korea sometime to meet my grandparents, relatives and friends!

I will be going back to Taiwan and playing for half of the time then I will need to get ready for 6th grade. I will need to start to learn my bass clarinet. I will need to know my high notes pretty well. I am going to work on the wiki too and I will try to get 600 contributions then i would break my record again and i would have to set a new record which will be 700 contributions but i don't think that i am going to beat the record of 600 because it is really a huge amount. Also i am going to train my stupid dog if anyone read my story. It would be really hard because she only thinks about playing and not about the things that she is suppose to do. I'm going to be in Singapore for a few weeks because of my father's job and I will return back to Philippines. I'm going to do soccer competition with another school and I can't wait to do it! I was so amused and happy that I got the hole in one and I got to have money from my family by the bet. 5. I recommend the book Rules by Cynthia Lord. This book is realistic fiction, and is full of internal conflict that we experience everyday. Catherine, who is 12 years old, is conflicted about her feelings for her brother David. She loves him, but is embarrassed by his behavior. David is autistic and doesn't always do things that make sense to others. Through her friendship with Jason, a nonverbal paraplegic that she meets at her brother's therapy appointments, she discovers that maybe there is no such thing as normal. It is about a boy who's wolf gets mysteriously kidnapped by an unknown evil. Together, Torak and Renn must brave the fierce northern winds, to somehow reach the 'Eye of the Viper' to fight the Soul Eaters and get back Wolf.

I am one of those people who can't find good books that well, but one day my mom came into my room holding a book called, 'The Famous Five " when I looked at the book I didn't want to read it but my mom made me so when I read the back I said " OK I will try it!" This book is about three kids who have to go stay with their mean, old, uncle but the good thing is that his wife is very nice and they get to meet their kid! the kids names are Anne, Dick and Julian! Julian is the oldest boy, Dick is the middle boy and Anne is the smallest girl. The other girl's name is George. George is not like other girls she is more like a boy! George is really mean at first but then she takes a shine to the kids and shows them her castle on her own island! There might be one another friend in this book, that the kids are not looking for! 12. I recommend the book, Deltora Quest, written by Emily Rodda. It is a great fantasy chapter book. It is about a boy, a girl, and a 30 year old man trying to find 7 magic gems that were hidden all in different places by the evil shadow lord. The land of Del needs to be saved, but the only thing that can save it is the 7 magic gems. Will Del be saved or will it crumble under the shadow lords feet? Find out when you read this book. This book is always action packed and will keep you reading for hours. The main characters are always getting into some sort of trouble, but that doesn't stop them. A very memorable part of this book was when the evil poison monster gets killed. I think that part is very exciting. I really like Emily Rodda's style of writing, she always keeps her stories suspenseful. It really makes the book great. I really like the book Deltora Quest. ~Brett (Ms.Hunter's class)

13. Cracker Jackson is a great realistic fiction book, by Betsy Byers, that is packed with loads of action, when Cracker finds out that his beloved babysitter, Alma, is in danger. But, what can an eleven-year-old boy do in an adult problem? Jackson would do anything for Alma but this is a situation most people couldn't cope with. 14. No Talking, by Andrew Clements, is a great book that will keep you on the edge of your seat. It's a very exciting realistic fiction story. The author uses amazing word choice throughout the book. No Talking is about a boy, named Dave, and a girl, named Lindsey, who go face to face in a no talking contest. Lindsey teams up with the 5th grade girls and Dave teams up with the 5th grade boys. They have a limit of 3 words per sentence too. Watch and see how this little contest spreads like a virus across the whole school. Who will win??? 15. I recommend, The Secret Life of Amanda K. Woods, by Ann Cameron. The book is realistic fiction because it is about the ups and downs of Amanda's life. The mood of this book is happy and sad both. The main characters are Amanda, Pam, Amanda's mom and Amanda's dad. This book is mostly about Amanda and her best friend Pam. Amanda's mom wants her to be perfect, but her dad wants her to live life and have fun. My favorite part of the book is when she finds the four leaf clover. I recommend this book because everybody loves Christmas of course, but this story is about a 6th grade girl named Callie that thinks her mother and father is always busy that she never ever had time to play with her friend at their house and that it is unfair her friends get to have sleep-overs while Callie sells Christmas trees or do her homework. If you read this book you will feel sorry for Callie and you will find lots of interesting words and stop and thinks.
This book is a very good book for almost everyone and you will enjoy it and learn a lot of morals from this book. This book is sad because Callie's grandma, the best cookie-maker for Callie has passed away but Callie will still try to make one. I think Callie will change everything into a normal life?

Ii know they sound bad enough but all of them are controlled by the evil keeper. The Liberators are the only ones who can help with their high knowledge in computers and technology they form a rebellion and try to over through their leader........... What will become of them? Will Matt finish his game and free the workers (slaves)? But he is not fit enough to be a knight and becomes a rangers apprentice. Rangers are types of people who helps the kingdom. We think that Karana and Brian is kind of has the same characteristics but, Karana's family died, but Brian's parents divorced. We think that Karana is much more in pain because her family members all died, and her favorite pet, Rontu died. But she was beginning to be hopeful because of Rontu-Aru, who is Rontu's son. But we liked these books because it had a happy ending. We wonder how Brian's parents are doing, and if they re-married, again, that would be really grateful to Brian because he can be with both of them and forget about the Secret. I didn't have a worst character in this book because all the characters were nice. Based in this book, it was about Master Basho, writing Haiku's. I also made a Haiku long time ago and it was on the school magazine. I can't remember it, but it was certainly perfect! There is a lot of information about the Nazi, the Star of David, Swastika, Denmark, Germany, Sweden and the difficulty of the Jews. The main characters are Annemarie, Kristie, Ellen, Lise, Papa, Mama, Mrs. Rosen, Mr. Rosen, Peter, Uncle Henrik, and the Germans. My favorite character was Peter because he risked his life to protect Denmark and be a part of the resistance. I think he is really, really brave because he ripped the youth of his body like a caterpillar, trying to be a butterfly. I really liked him because he was very humorous when he called Annemarie, little long legs. I was so sad when it mentioned that he was executed by the Germans. I really learned a lot about the war against the Germans and the Danish, Jewish people. I know the meaning of the Start of David, and the Swastika. Never hung the Swastika from anywhere because you will immediately go to jail! I really loved this book and when I was supposed to read only 5 chapters, I read the entire book for my individual class. There are still Germans who are hiding in every places. There were a lot of misunderstandings between Tiffany and Annabelle because of the mean trick of the doll called, Princess Mi Mi but, everyone called her, Mean Mi Mi because she was really mean and greedy, using her friends as her things or toys to play with. The main characters are Annabelle, Tiffany, Papa, Mama, Nanny, Bobby, Uncle, Auntie Sarah, Baby Betsy (even though she was from another doll set, but no one cared.) Also, the Funcrafts family: Tiffany, Bailey, Mom, Dad, Baby Britney and the cat in the house called: The Captain. Also, the other new dolls: Mean Mi Mi (Princess Mi Mi), Yvonne, Penny, Beth, Waterfall, Melody (Magnificent Mariah Raynebow), the Cutouts, Sandra Doll, Sleeping Billy and Techno-Man. This book is almost about Mean Mi Mi getting the Annabelle family and the Funcrafts family in to trouble and tried to break the secret of the living dolls. She keeps on messing things in Kate's room, shouting that Kate's dolls are alive, throwing the Captain's toys. Who can stop her? Will Mean Mi Mi break the oath of the secret of the doll's lives? The main characters are Max, Nicky, Tara, Tracy, Colin, Mom, Dad, Mr. Morgo, Aaron, Phoebe, Mrs. Manola, Billy and Willy. This is the third book of the series. I really want to read the fourth one, but it is not in the library!!! My favorite character was Max because he rescued Nicky and Tara when all the other evil ghosts surrounded them to suck them in the life pods to get revenge from what Nicky and Tara's parents did. It was really descriptive when it described the situation with the evil ghosts and Mr. Morgo, sizzling and boiling like sausages on a hot pan. They melted on to the floor and disappeared the gooey things. I recommend this book because it is really exciting and learn-able because I learned how to make Christmas decorations by reading it, and learned that friendship is really important and learned that from Ding Dong and Geronimo Stilton.The main characters are Geronimo Stilton, Thea, Trap, Benjamin, Santa, Mrs. Claus, Ding Dong, Dasher, Rudolph, Donder, Comet, Blitzen, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Cupid and so on. I learned that even Santa Claus needed help when he was in a terrible condition or have a disease. It was really heart-melting when Geronimo read the letter from his favorite nephew, Benjamin because he said that he didn't need any presents but having a lot of fun together with Geronimo. I think that Santa Claus, chose the right rodent to help him because Geronimo needed to rest and have fun during Christmas, and having a nice time with his lovely nephew, Benjamin. I recommend this book because it was recommended by my English Teacher at a studying place called, RECAS and she said that it was a great book and that she loved it so much. So, first I thought it was kind of hard to understand, but later, it became more sense, and it was really interesting and some parts were funny. This book series are really popular, and my English Teacher couldn't find any books about this, so she had to order them from United States. The main characters are Harriet, Janie, Sport, Ole Golly, Mr and Mrs. Welsch, Mr. Waldenstein, Ole Golly's mom, Mrs. Plumber, the maid, the Robinsons, the Dei Santi's family, Little Joe, Harrison Withers, Miss. Elson, Miss Berry, Pinky Whitehead, Dr. Wagner, Beth Ellen, Carrie Andrews, Marion, Hawthorn, Laura Peters, and The Boy with the Purple Socks and so on. Later, The Boy with the Purple Socks turned to: The Boy with the Green Socks. Harriet named him like that because she thought that he was really dull and boring. I realized that Harriet was not a perfect friend because she is a spy, and she says bad things about her friends, even best friends. When everyone read the book, Sport whimpered, turning his back toward Harriet and since then, everyone in the class, teased, bullied or ignored her. There are other series about this one book and some of them are: The Long Secret, about Beth Ellen and the book called, Sport which was Harriet's best friend. Will she ever get back with her friends again? If you want to know more about this book, then you should read this book!!!!

I recommend this book because you can learn a lot about the early years, the years of the Pioneer life, when hurricanes and bad weather happened a lot. The main characters are Jack, Annie, Morgon, Miss Neely, Kate, Will, Jeb and other people. I learned a lot about the history at Prairie and some of them are about the bad weather, after the Civil War, the U.S. government built railroads to link the eastern and western parts of the country. By the 1870s, steam engines carried people across the Kansas Prairie. Wagons were the most common way for families to travel west. They could carry clothes, tools, food, and water. A line of wagons was called a "wagon train." The white cloth coverings over the wagons also made them look like sailing ships, or schooners. For this reason, covered wagons were sometimes called "prairie schooners." Since the prairie did not have many tees, wood was hard to find. So pioneers often made their houses out of sod bricks, which were blocks of earth cut out of the prairie. Sometimes a sod house was dug out of the side of a hill. It was called a "dugout." I recommend this book because it is one of the Summer Reading List and I thought that it was pretty cool because it is about Summer Reading Is Killing Me! and I think that most people thinks the same way as this title! It is a series so you should really start from the first, but I just started at this one because it is one of the Summer Reading List. The main characters are Joe, Fred, Sam. The main part of the story is that the boys the main character is Joe, and he has a book called, The Book and it takes them to different places and this book is about the boys getting in to a fairytale and a bear, the leader of the library, he wants to crush the good characters and only put the evil characters in the books and mostly it is the bear because he wants to be popular and to be known, not like a cuddly cute bear, but a fierce one! I recommend this book because it is really the best book that I've ever read and this book was also my RLA teacher's favorite book ever. The main characters are Milo, Tock, Humbug, King of Dictionopolis, King of Digitopolis, Aunt Faintly, Rhyme, Reason, Alec, Chroma, Dr. Dischord, Dynne, Soundkeeper, Senses Taker and so on! The characters are really interesting because Tock is a watchdog and there are two meanings: watching (looking) dog and a watch (clock) dog, so it has a watch on his right side. The land of Dictionopolis is about letters because it is (Dictionary) and it sells food of letters! Digiopolis has numbers for their food but it makes people more hungrier and the food is: the "Subtraction Stew". I would like to be Milo for going to the magical world because it sounds really fun and quite challenging! Who would like to go there? Do you think that Milo will save Rhyme and Reason before it is too late? Well...you need to find it out by reading it!!!! I hope you will enjoy this book~!! You can learn a lot about pottery and that you need to take a lot of effort and time on it. The main characters were Tree-ear, Crane-man, Min, Kang, Ajima, Emissary Kim and other people. I liked how the author wrote true things about Korean culture since I am from Korea. I don't really like the ending because one of the main characters die and I hate sad or bad endings because it makes me cry or feel that I want to know more about the next chapter. I read this book in one day because it was so exciting and interesting that I couldn't stop. My sister said that she did not really liked the book but I loved the book! But, if you do not want to read a book about death and sadness, you should not because it made my eyes fill with tears. I hope you are wondering why Charlie is safe with the Lions, but there is a special ability of him that can make him safe. If you want to know about it, you really need to read this book! When I was reading this book, I could not get it off out of my mind and so I read all the book until 12: 45 and was shouted at from my parents for staying up too late! The end of the story was extremely catchy because finally Charlie found his parents in a hotel with Aunt Mabel! This was what it was written: (Among them was a red-haired woman, in clothes that showed she hadn't been to bed the night before, weeping over an untouched cup of coffee. Holding her hand across the table was a man, his broad shoulders slumped, his head gently shaking. You could see that he was saying kind and encouraging words to her, words he was trying hard to believe himself, and that she was not comforted. All the air went out of Charlie's chest. His legs went weak. 'Off yer go, then,' said a voice. He walked into the courtyard, his legs almost buckling beneath him. He went up to the table. He breathed deeply. 'Hello Mum,' he said. The main characters are Luke, Jen, Carlos, Mom, Dad, Mark, Matthew, Sean, Yolanda, Pat, the Population Police, the Government, Lee Grant and Jen's dad. If there is this Population Law in Singapore, I was not to exist and to be executed by the Population Police. But, Luke is hiding from the Population Police by his family's protection and he has to stay in his house everyday! But one day, he finds a face in the Sport's family house and there are 2 sons but there is another face among the window! So, Luke insists to check on the new information! The summary at the back of the book that I thought was very catchy reads: (Luke has never been to school. He's never had a birthday party, or gone to a friend's house for an overnight. In fact, Luke has never had a friend. Luke is one of the shadow children, a third child forbidden by the Population Police. He's lived his entire life in hiding, and now, with a new housing development replacing the woods next to his family's farm, he is no longer even allowed to go outside. Thank you so much Mr. Carroll for being a cool teacher who likes to play with students at the Jurong Water Park! I had a lot of fun by chasing you around in the Lazy River and the Wave Pool with Shannon, Brandon and Eric trying to knock you off from the tube! Mr. Carroll, you are really good at noticing that we are sometimes cheating by walking along the Lazy River by the edge and you always spotted us and shouted that was cheating! It was fun to do cheating without you knowing. After doing that, I felt like a wobbly squid because I used my legs to force the way along the Lazy river by the opposite way! I had fun doing that, and I think that this will be a memorable part of 5th grade! I hope we can meet each other again! I will visit you someday with one of classmates! Thank you Mr. Carroll for being cool at the water park . It was fun going with you on the slides and chasing you around the wave pool and the lazy river. But feel very sorry that you had scratches all over you. Well that would get better. You are really strong when you can go backwards in the lazy river. It is really hard to chase you. Hello Mr Carroll, you were a lot of help to me because last year, I struggled in math, RLA, and science. But you had increased about 99% of my learning I think. I think you are the best teacher of all my teachers in SAS. My thoughts of you are you are very clever because sometimes you stop us and when we were doing Brainpop. And at the quiz it asked if you wanted to do it again, you said it was stupid because they first showed us the answers. I've never thought of that. I think I'm too lazy. You can write anything for math studying and help with others. For example you could write study with your parents. Just, if you have any good ideas for studying you can write them down in here under the last sentence.

Get into a group of 3 or more. One person will be the asker and the other two will be answerers. The asker will say a fact, and the answerers must work it out. Were you nervous?
I wasn't that nervous because I was doing it infront of my parents and I was in charge, so I knew what to say and did it correctly. I even practiced, that is why I was not nervous. ~ MItali~ ~May 24, 2008~

I was not nervous because it was my parents, and I knew what I was doing in the conference. Also, my mom can't speak English very well, so she and I talked in Korean, and that made me kind of relaxed! What was your favorite part and why?
My favorite part was watching my parents trying to work together to solve the nails. That was really funny, watching them try to solve it. I enjoyed watching all that funny teamwork. My parents did not end up solving the nails. The funny part was that they both would say stuff like, " NO! You need to do it like this... I know! Let me do it! My favorite part was when my mom got to do the Facts Test because she was really confused in the questions and it was quite funny to see that my mom scolded me to show her the paper and translate it in Korean. So, the Facts Test was really complicated because she kept on writing small problems of decimals! But, it was quite fun to see her doing things that were challenging! I also liked to do the 50 cent experiment because she thought that 20 drops of water would fit on it, but it fitted 48 drops of water! --SooMin--May, 28, 2008

I laughed a bit because my parents were saying booyaka all wrong when the coin exploded. You know what? They didn't even yell booyaka, they just mumbled bokayy. That was a bit strange. (Example: Think of India, they say, " I. ") The next player does not know the place but may think of another place beginning with I, they say the next letter. ( Example: They think of Idaho. They say, " D. " ) Everyone keeps spelling until the word is spelled. Whoever says the last letter loses a letter of donkey. ( Example: After saying last letter for the first time: you are on key. ) When you have no letters of donkey left, you lose. If you want to you can take turns starting.
